As director, Sakinah Hoyte develops partnerships with city, state and national community providers and stakeholders to provide quality services to the homeless throughout Essex County. She has recently been appointed by the City of Newark to chair the City of Newark’s Homeless Coalition along with Mayor Ras Baraka’s Small Policy Task Force to address homelessness. She is supported by a professional staff that ensure quality case management services are offered to provide individuals access to: medical, mental health and substance abuse services, administrative aide to receive valid state identification, job training and providing access to housing to the most vulnerable homeless in Essex County. As a result of her leadership, Project Connect in partnership with onsite providers, has provided a myriad of services and outreach to over 5,000 adults and children both homeless and at-imminent risk of homelessness since 2014.
Ms. Hoyte embodies the legacy of service imparted to her through her academic foundation at Howard University where she obtained her Bachelor of Arts and Seton Hall University where she obtained her Master's in Public Administration. Her personal mission is to expand that legacy through the elimination of homelessness in the U.S.
